Raised bed gardening has become the gardening system of choice for thousands of serious gardeners. U.S. gardeners have discovered the benefits of growing with raised beds — benefits known to the Chinese for thousands of years. Some of these benefits include:
• Safe, chemical free food. Why put the stuff into your body if you don't have to? Children are especially vulnerable to the harmful effects of pesticides, Each exposure to a toxic chemical adds to a child's body burden, and since children can’t detoxify as well as adults can, they need to be protected from pesticides and environmental poisons wherever possible.
• Improved soil condition. Growing plants in raised beds is a logical choice for gardeners who's soil is thin, rocky, sandy, exhausted, or heavy. We can bring in a healthy mixture of vibrant, and live soil that significantly benefits plants. Natural, undisturbed soil is alive with microbial organisms that exist in harmony with the native plant life and the inorganic minerals that provide the soil's substrate.
Synthetic chemicals (such as herbicides, pesticides, and/or fast acting inorganic fertilizers) applied in or around crops interrupt or destroy the microbial activity in the soil. Once this activity in the soil has stopped, the soil becomes merely an anchor for plant material, and must be constantly supplemented by the grower.
• Improved drainage. Plant roots require oxygen to function. This is why waterlogged plants fail to grow and even die if the situation persists.
• Higher yields. Various studies have shown that raised garden beds produce 1.4 to 2 times as much vegetables per square foot as ordinary beds.
• Extended season. Raised beds heat up earlier in the spring. Because of their height, they intercept more of the sun's rays in late winter and early spring.
• Natural pest control. A screen underneath keeps out burrowing
animals, and the height keeps out rabbits. We can recommend
guaranteed organic fertilizer that repels deer and small critters.
If you can't believe that our fertilizer will keep your extremely
aggressive deer out, we can easily build a deer fence
around the box. Vining plants would love to grow on it.
• Save money With some work, you can easily triple your garden investment in a few years. Which is a lot more than many of our mutual funds are doing these days.
• Save the planet. By not supporting farming that depletes the land and pollutes the environment, you are doing your small part. And if you add a compost bin, you'll be doing your part to lower your land fill rate, while you make nutrient packed dirt for your kitchen garden.
